Linda Dempster

Philip Howard

Consultant Pharmacist in Antimicrobials at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, AMR Project Lead at NHS-Improvement and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Leeds University

He is a spokesman for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society on Antimicrobials, and for the charity Antibiotic-Action.

He was a member of the Dept of Health ARHAI Antimicrobial Stewardship Group that produced the original Start Smart then Focus Antimicrobial Stewardship Guidelines and the HPA Primary Care Unit which helped produce the RCGP TARGET guidance on Antimicrobial Stewardship in Primary Care.

His research interests include Antimicrobial Stewardship and led the first global hospital Antimicrobial Stewardship survey. He has been involved in AMS education and training across the world.  In 2012, he won the GHP/GSK/UKCPA Clinical Leadership Award.

Lisa White

Assistant Director of Infection Prevention and Control at Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust

Lisa Trained at Guys and ST.Thomas NHS Foundation Trust and qualified in 1993, where she undertook a variety of roles. In 2005 Lisa joined the Infection Prevention and Control team at the Trust, where she was part of the team that helped reduce the HCAI’s at GSTT significantly over the next 5 years.

Lisa’s focus changed to the community setting in 2010, when she became the Lead Infection Prevention and Control Advisor for Lambeth and Southwark PCT, and supported them through a CQC assessment, and restructure. In 2012 she moved to Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust, where she has helped the organisation to focus on the wider community aspects of Infection Prevention and Control. Lisa continues to work closely with colleagues in Kent to ensure health economy-wide changes are implemented effectively to improve patient safety

Barbara Soule

Barbara Soule has worked in health care for more than 40 years. She currently serves as Practice Leader, Infection Prevention and Control Services, for Joint Commission Resources (JCR) and Joint Commission International (JCI).

In this capacity, she provides oversight and coordination for all infection prevention and control services, education and products across multiple health care settings. She practices both in the US and internationally consulting with health systems, individual organizations and Ministries of Health.

Barbara is a Past President of The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) and has served on the APIC Scientific Research Committee, Education Committee and Strategic Planning.

Elias Tannous

Elias TannousArab Countries Infection Control Network

Elias Tannous is an infection control professional with more than 20 years experience in the healthcare setting.

He holds degree in Nursing from the French Ministry of Health and from Saint Joseph University in Lebanon, degrees in Business Administrations and Human Resource/Personnel Management from UK and Certified Board in Infection Control, USA since 2008.

He has coordinated, co-directed and facilitated loads of IC educational activities and has been heavily involved in major infection control activities, projects and programs for the past 10 years, including commissioning of new facilities, developing surveillance programs and evaluating IC programs.


Francine Westergaard, MSN, MBA, RN

Francine Westergaard’s experience includes responsibilities as a health care administrator for inpatient hospital operations; hospital-based and off-site ambulatory care services; budgeting; staffing; quality measurement and improvement; new project/service development; transport medicine and emergency services; disaster planning; facility management; facility planning and construction during the construction of a new hospital and an outpatient oncology centre.

Ms Westergaard worked for a large health care system in the Chicago area for more than 23 years prior to joining the Joint Commission Resources team in 2007. Her international experience has included consultation and education for major hospitals, health care systems and ministries of health in the Americas, Asia Pacific, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Ms. Westergaard’s consulting expertise includes operational assessment; standards and survey preparedness; patient safety assessment; medication management; infection prevention and control; environment of care; executive leadership and governing bodies; senior executive dialogue; performance improvement; and incorporating tracer methodology as management tools.

Ms. Westergaard has extensive experience lecturing on standards and survey preparedness; patient safety; and quality improvement. She provides suggestions and applications for improvement which can assist organizations as they facilitate change dynamics.2

Sian Annakin

Sian AnnakinTrust Sepsis Nurse Practitioner / Clinical Educator

Siân is the Trust Sepsis Nurse Practitioner and a Resuscitation officer at The Dudley Group Foundation Trust. She qualified as a registered nurse at Southampton University in 1995, moving to the West Midlands to start her career briefly in surgical nursing & high dependency care, before rotating around the different speciality Critical Care units across the region. 16 years within the Critical Care environment, including 11 years as Critical Care Outreach Sister led to her joining the Resuscitation team in 2013 and becoming the lead for Sepsis within the Trust in 2016. Siân is also a Clinical educator with the UK Sepsis Trust and is a co-author of the UKST Sepsis Manual – 4th edition (2018).

Matt Inada Kim

John Currie

John CurrieNational Association of Healthcare Security 

John is Head of Security and NHS Accredited Local Security Management Specialist (LSMS) for Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. He was recently voted in as NAHS Executive Director. John is a former Royal Air Force Police Special Investigator who began working with the NHS in 2005 as a Drugs Worker with the Coventry Drugs Intervention Programme. He moved back to the Policing and Security field in 2006, gaining his NHS Security Management LSMS accreditation in 2007.

John has worked across all sectors of the NHS and has a particular interest in Mental Health Acute and Forensic services. He now works closely with two Mental Health Trusts, hosted on his two acute hospital sites. In addition to the ‘normal’ day job, John delivers Lone Worker, Personal Safety skills, PREVENT and Project GRIFFIN Counter Terrorism awareness training.

Daniel Hodgkiss

Daniel HodgkissPatient Safety Assistant Programme Manager, WMAHSN

Background – Daniel leads the Deterioration NatSIP for the West Midlands focusing on acutely ill patient deterioration/ implementation of NEWS2 (National Early Warning Score); and the spread and adoption of the Bristol ED Checklist. Daniel worked previously for Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust from 2014 – 2019 and was the Patient Safety Manager for MLTC and Adult Community, where he investigated serious incidents ensuring Human Factors were an integral aspect of all investigations. Daniel developed a nationally recognised initiative relating to the management of frequent attenders to A&E who had complex social issues. Daniel embedded Appreciative Inquiry throughout the Trust developing a number of approaches and tools such as Right Cause Analysis and delivered a workshop at the World Appreciative Inquiry Conference 2019 surrounding the movement to a Safety-II culture.  Daniel was part of the 2018 HSJ winning team for the Clinical Governance and Risk Management Award and the Patient Safety Meridian Award in 2019.  Daniel has a real passion for developing positive safety cultures in healthcare using Quality Improvement and Appreciative Inquiry approaches whilst ensuring patients are at the heart of the work.
